Eric, 83, recently completed treatment for prostate cancer at our Genesis CancerCare Southport Centre. He also blitzed the competition to be 75+ age group winner in the recent Robina Triathlon.
Eric was diagnosed with prostate cancer in late 2016 and underwent bouts of hormone injections and radiation therapy that left him sweating profusely, affecting his sleep and energy levels
“It pegs you back a bit, but I am not the sort guy to give up”.
A successful triathlon competitor in the 1980’s, Eric felt compelled to start training again when his Doctors recommend he stay fit during his treatment.
“Training and exercise has positively impacted my recovery. It’s made me stronger and more able to deal with discomfort. I have added a new dimension to my life, new horizons and this has given me goals to achieve…”
Eric’s next goal is to swim 50, 50 metre laps and return to Robina next January to defend his 75+ age group first place.
Eric is hoping that his story will inspire others who face radiation therapy.
Talk to your Radiation Oncologist or nursing team about exercise during treatment.
