Visualisation of our new centre underway at St Stephen’s Hospital in Hervey Bay
GenesisCare is pleased to announce that it is developing two state-of-the-art cancer services to deliver high-quality radiation therapy to Wide Bay oncology patients. The centres will be located at the Mater Misericordiae Hospital in Bundaberg and at St Stephen’s Hospital in Hervey Bay. This builds on GenesisCare’s long history in the regional Queensland community, with its integral cardiology and sleep services in Bundaberg.
GenesisCare Executive Manager of CancerCare, Keith Hansen, said he was delighted by the opportunity to bring high-quality cancer care services to the region.
“GenesisCare is thrilled to be developing a world-class cancer care service for oncology patients in the Wide Bay area. We’ll be bringing insights and care models from our global network direct to the region, and will be investing in the latest technology, along with clinical research and trials.
“A cancer diagnosis places a lot of strain on the individual, so our team puts as much effort into taking care of the person as we do into treating the cancer. We do this by providing rapid access to high quality services in a caring and supportive environment,” said Mr Hansen.
GenesisCare has a strong track record of delivering outstanding patient satisfaction, with its patient net promoter scores placing it in the top 1 per cent of outpatient healthcare organisations in the world.[i]
Mater Misericordiae Hospital Executive Officer, Ivan Rasmussen, said it was terrific to see the new investment in the community: “We are delighted to partner with GenesisCare to provide this new Bundaberg facility. Local patients should feel reassured that they have access to state-of-the-art health care right here in town.”
St Stephen’s Hospital General Manager, Darren Rogers, was also pleased about development of the new service on-site: “GenesisCare and St Stephen’s Hospital are working together to provide holistic cancer care to patients close to home. This is great news for the community.”
Radiation therapy is a highly effective weapon in the fight against cancer, delivering approximately 40 per cent of all cures. [ii] Using a highly sophisticated machine called a linear accelerator, GenesisCare will be providing non-invasive radiation therapy that precisely delivers radiation beams to eradicate cancer cells.
Additional services will include an innovative cardio-oncology program, an initiative to support rapid access for palliative care patients, regional outreach clinics, exercise programs and access to clinical trials.
