Genesis CancerCare Queensland was established in 2014, after the successful acquisition of Premion by GenesisCare.
Premion was Queensland's first private radiation oncology provider, commencing operations in 1988 at The Wesley Hospital in Auchenflower, Brisbane. The facility then known as the "Wesley Cancer Care Centre" initially employed 15 staff and utilised a single 6/100 Varian linear accelerator to administer radiation treatment for a wide range of cancer conditions.
The centre also pioneered the use of remote afterloading brachytherapy in Queensland, adding it to its treatment service in the following year.
Over the next 25 years the organisation expanded its treatment facilities in South East Queensland, opening centres at Tugun (Southern Gold Coast in 1995), Nambour (Sunshine Coast in 2001), Chermside (Brisbane in 2008) and Southport (Northern Gold Coast in 2009).
Today the organisation continues to deliver advanced radiation treatment services across its five Queensland sites and maintains a strong reputation as a leader in field of radiation oncology under the name Genesis CancerCare Queensland.
